City Developments Limited: Community Outreach - Arts

Reed Sculpture, the winning work
of the inaugural CDL Singapore
Sculpture Award in 2003, was
commissioned and installed for
public display at The Pier at
Robertson along the Singapore
River.
As a material expression of society, we believe in nurturing creative expressions and cultivating talent amongst our youth, while fostering a greater appreciation for local art.

To a developer, architecture and art complement each other to create a desired expression and enhance the ambience of a property. Our long-standing support of the sculptural art form is a natural extension of our core business as a developer.

In 2002, CDL initiated and organised the CDL Singapore Sculpture Award to nurture artistic talent and to cultivate a greater appreciation for the sculptural art form in Singapore. Held biennially, the Award also aims to enrich Singapore’s sculptural landscape, through the commissioning and installation of the winning sculpture for display. The Award’s Organising Committee comprises the National Parks Board, National Heritage Board, National Arts Council, LASALLE College of the Arts and Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. Singapore Art Museum is the Venue Sponsor for the Award Exhibition.

Apart from sculpture, photography is another art form that CDL has been promoting amongst the youth. In 2006, CDL initiated the Singapore Young Photographer Award in partnership with five major photo clubs, the Singapore Art Museum and National Youth Achievement Award Council, to nurture young local photography talents. Besides managing this national-level initiative to promote photography amongst youths, CDL also introduced a sub-category award, "CDL Young Architectural Photographer Award" that aims to identify and
groom young talents specialising in architectural photography, which complements our core
business.
